No one expects the Spanish Inquisition, or indeed rain in the Summer of 2014. Mention has been already made in this blog of the glorious summer we are experiencing. Today however the tables turned with the passing of the monthly baton from July to August. Working at home it was a most glorious start. Brooding to the south west however a line of dark grey clouds rolled slowly in. By lunchtime this deluge had set it. What a deluge too. Julie had friends come to take her out for lunch today and the planned scenic drive to the local pub was a bit of a washout (although the Eton Mess was relished). On it came and for about 4 hours never stopped. By the time I'd shut up shop and headed onto the M5 it was as a forecaster may say "light accumulations with low cloud".
It seemed strange then to be driving up the M5 to Wotton-Under-Edge with the car headlights blazing a trail against the slowmoving Friday holiday traffic. By 7pm we were ensconced in the Electric Picture House, a bag of mixed poppets and an ice cream to the ready. Monty Python Almost Live (or as the ticket said Almost Liv - very apt) was about to tickle the chucklebuds. I'd have loved to have seen these live on July 20th when this was filmed, but if I'm honest, there was probably a better view from the cinema, close ups and visual effects were plain to see. And the atmosphere was Electric too, much guffawing and laughing in that Gloucestershire independent run cinema. The Python boys still have it and I'm looking forward to the pinnacle of my career in that I'll be working with Michael Palin on September 23rd. Now that isn't something I expected to ever do in my lifetime!!
