August 2nd 2014

Tonight we dined al-fresco by firelight. Actually the dining was a few pieces of fruit and the reason for being outdoors in front of a fire was the Wick St Lawrence Harvest Home. The first Saturday in August is always the Harvest Home, and I've never been which is quite shocking given the marquee is erected in the field behind the house. Close enough to throw a small hay bale at, and certainly close enough to hear the PA system crackle into life for the evening event. I have no idea who the bands were but a few folk-cum-Wurzles types got the evening going followed by a good covers band who sang into the wee small hours, well 12.30 to be precise. As this was at full volume and less that 100 meters away, sleep would be impossible, so we sat in the garden, lit the fire and listened to the band. And the roar of the crowd, which was also amplified by the PA system. Sleep was possible by 1.30am, well it's only once a year isn't it.
